Track ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity traffic to your website
Clerion counts the visits AI assistants send you as a channel of their own, next to search, social and direct. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot each get a row with visitors, conversion rate and share, and a second list shows the pages they send people to. There is nothing to set up: the one script tag does it.
What you see
| On the card | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Assistants | Each assistant with its visitors, how many converted, and its share of AI visits |
| Landing pages | The pages assistants send people to, and whether each is a page or a site search |
| AI against everyone else | The conversion rate of AI visitors beside the rate for all other visitors |
| The sentence on top | What changed against the previous period, in plain words |
The same figures reach the briefing, so when ChatGPT visitors start buying at three times your average, the briefing says so.
How Clerion recognises an assistant
Some tools now group the assistants into a channel; many still file them under Referral, and every tool counts a visit with no referrer as Direct. Clerion keeps one list of assistant addresses and matches on all of them, including the apps and tagged links that most tools miss:
- The web addresses: chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, perplexity.ai, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, copilot.microsoft.com, grok.com, meta.ai, deepseek.com, mistral, kagi, you.com and more.
- The apps: Android apps send their package name instead of a web address, and those are matched too, so the ChatGPT app and the website count as one source.
- Tagged links: a link that carries
utm_source=chatgpt,ref=perplexityorsource=claudeis credited to that assistant even when the browser sends no referrer.
Every alias folds into one row. Visits from chat.openai.com and the ChatGPT app both appear as chatgpt.com.
Limits
| Limit | What it means |
|---|---|
| Hidden referrers | Some assistants open links without telling the browser where they came from. Those visits count as Direct unless the link is tagged. The card says so: the number is a floor. |
| Google's AI answers | A click from an AI Overview or AI Mode comes from google.com and counts as search, because Google sends it that way. |
| Which pages, not which prompts | Clerion sees the page a visitor landed on, not the question they asked the assistant. |
Set it up
Nothing to do beyond the one script tag. To make hidden referrers visible, put ?ref=chatgpt on the links you give assistants where you can, such as in an llms.txt file or a directory listing.
Questions
Does Google Analytics do this?
Since May 2026 GA4 has an AI Assistant channel that recognises ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, DeepSeek and Grok. Perplexity still counts as Referral there, and visits without a referrer still count as Direct. Clerion also matches the apps and tagged links, shows the landing pages, and compares conversion.
Can I filter the whole dashboard to ChatGPT visitors?
Yes. Click the ChatGPT row and every number, chart and funnel narrows to those visitors. Click Google to compare.
Is this the same as being recommended by ChatGPT?
No. This counts the visits that arrive. To see whether assistants can read your site in the first place, run the AI-readiness check.
